This video was written and produced by Ed Frawley. It's goal is to introduce the dog trainer to the world of marker training in dogs. It sets the stage for the series of training DVDs that Ed later produced with Michael Ellis.
Marker training (also called clicker training) is one of the most profound systems of training dogs that Ed Frawley has seen in the 50 years of owning, breeding, and training working dogs.
This training system isn't difficult to learn. It is a method of communication that is very clear for the dogs. Dogs can pick up the marker language very quickly and when they do, they thrive in the training.
It wasn't that many years ago that Ed Frawley was vocal about how foolish he thought clicker training was. He admits that those were comments made from a position of ignorance and lack of understanding. However, Ed Frawley knew he was wrong with that position, having made those comments without knowing the details of how the system worked. Marker training lies in understanding and applying the details.
The goal of this DVD is to introduce dog trainers to the details of training with markers. Ed Frawley demonstrates the finer points of the marker system. He not only demonstrates basic commands but how markers can be used in difficult exercises such as the retrieve and send away.
Marker training can be started on 8-week-old puppies or on a 6-year-old, dominant rescue dog. It is purely positive and 100 percent non-confrontation. It can work with dominant dogs very well and goes a long way towards building or repairing the bond between the handler and the dog.
